Senate Bill 528 authored by Senator Carlin Yoder.
SB 528 would give indivduals the opportunity to donate to a Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) and get a 50% tax credit. The SGO would then be able to provide scholarships to families who want to send their child to another public school or a private school and cannot afford to do so. Scholarships would be limited to the student being new at the school and whose family would be at 200% of the free and reduced lunch rate or below. Every child deserves the opportunity to get a first class education and this is a step in the right direction.
SB 528 passed the Senate by a vote of 35 to 15. SB 528 did not receive a hearing in the House of Representatives.
