Advance America commends Senator Scott Schneider’s efforts to give the people of Indiana the opportunity to learn more about Common Core.

Common Core Education Standards are National Education Standards that have been endorsed by the Obama Administration.

Should the State of Indiana give up control over education to federal bureaucrats?

Common Core National Education Standards will impact hundreds of thousands of Hoosier school children.  Should this happen in Indiana?

Senator Schneider wants the citizens of Indiana and elected officials to have the opportunity to learn more about Common Core and its impact on hundreds of thousands of Hoosier school children.  Senator Schneider is the author of Senate Bill 193.  Under the provisions of SB 193:

  1. Nine hearings would be held around the State on Common Core – one in each Congressional District – to give the public the opportunity to offer input on Common Core.
  2. The Office of Management and Budget will conduct a fiscal review of the projected cost to the state and local school corporations to implement Common Core.
  3. The State Board of Education after the nine hearings are held and after the fiscal analysis is done, will vote on whether or not to continue to implement Common Core.

The proposal by Senator Schneider is a reasonable one.  It is wise to give the public the opportunity to weigh in on such an important topic as the education of hundreds of thousands of Hoosier students; and it is wise to have a fiscal analysis done to know what Common Core will cost the taxpayers and public schools.

Senate Bill 193 passed the State Senate by a vote of 38-11.  Go to http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2013/PDF/Srollcal/0169.PDF.pdf  to see how your Senator voted.

Senate Bill 193 is now awaiting action in the House of Representatives.  Please contact your Representative and ask them to “Vote YES on Senate Bill 193 to permit public input and a fiscal analysis of Common Core.”
