Male cross-dressers in the State of Colorado now have access to women’s restrooms because of a change in Colorado law that prohibits discrimination based on gender identity. A bill was filed in the 2009 Indiana General Assembly that, if it had passed, would have provided male cross-dressers access to women’s in our state.

The proposed legislation would give government recognition to gender identity which means that a man who dresses as a woman or states that he is a woman would legally have to be treated as a woman.  This means the man could then have access to a women’s restroom or a women’s locker room at a fitness center.

This issue will no doubt resurface in the 2010 General Assembly.  Advance America will continue to lead the effort in our state to protect ladies and girls from having a man in the women’s restroom.  The State of Indiana should not be giving government recognition to male cross-dressers and giving them access to women’s restrooms.
