2010 Legislative Wrap-Up!

April 9th, 2010

The 2010 General Assembly recently adjourned! Over 800 bills were filed in the House and Senate this year!

Advance America’s 30th Legislative Session!

As in the past, Advance America worked with Senators and Representatives and with Republicans and Democrats.  Advance America continues to lead the effort at the State House to protect churches and families!

2010 Legislative Victories!

Here are some of the victories from the 2010 General Assembly:

  • The effort to regulate and control church childcare ministries was stopped!  Here is what Representative Dave Frizzell said about our involvement:

“Once again Eric Miller and Advance America led the effort at the State House to protect churches from government control and regulation.  Their efforts to stop House Bill 1036 were successful in stopping a bill that would have harmed churches.  I appreciate their continued vigilance at the State House on issues affecting churches and our freedoms.”

  • The effort to move forward on a casino in Fort Wayne was stopped!

  • The effort to teach children in the schools beginning in elementary school that homosexual relationships are normal and acceptable was stopped!

  • Voters in Indiana will be able to vote in November to place property tax caps in the Constitution.  This will get us one step closer to repealing property taxes on homes so Hoosiers can finally own their own home!

  • The effort to rollback the victory won in the 2009 General Assembly to create a scholarship effort to help provide some Indiana students with the chance to go to the school of their choice was stopped!

Marriage Must Be Protected!

Once again Representative Pat Bauer (D-South Bend), the Speaker of the House of Representatives, orchestrated the defeat of the Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage between one man and one woman and to ban same sex civil unions.  SJR 13 passed the Senate by the vote of 38-10 on January 28, 2010 but never received a hearing in the committee it was assigned to!  Speaker Bauer has once again abused his power by not permitting a vote on the floor of the House of Representatives to protect marriage in Indiana.

We’re Not Giving Up!

Advance America will be back in the 2011 General Assembly working to pass the Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage and to ban same sex civil unions!

A Casino For Fort Wayne?

January 28th, 2010

No Expansion of Gambling In Indiana!

Advance America does not support an expansion of gambling in Indiana!

A Casino For Fort Wayne?

In the 2009 General Assembly there was a discussion about a casino for Fort Wayne.  Some supporters of a casino in Fort Wayne called for a referendum in Fort Wayne or Allen County as a first step in the effort to get a casino for Northeast Indiana.

Last year Advance America joined with business and community leaders along with pastors from Fort Wayne and Allen County in an effort to stop a casino from being placed in Fort Wayne or having a referendum on gambling.  These efforts were successful in 2009.

 The Battle Continues!

Those who support a casino in Fort Wayne are continuing to work to bring a casino to this Northeast Indiana city.  They asked a legislative committee on January 21st to insert language into Senate Bill 405 permitting a referendum on a casino.

What Can You Do?

Contact your Senator and Representative with the following message:

“Please vote NO on any expansion of gambling in Indiana including a casino in Fort Wayne or a referendum to permit a casino in Fort Wayne.”

No Casino For Fort Wayne!

October 16th, 2009

Indiana Doesn’t Need Any More Gambling!
State Senators and State Representatives, who make up the 2009 Interim Study Committee on Gambling have been meeting at the State House during the summer and fall to consider proposals involving gambling.

Fort Wayne Casino Hearing October 19th!
On Monday, October 19th at 10:00 am in Room 431 of the State House the Interim Study Committee will have a hearing on a casino for Fort Wayne. This is a public hearing where citizens can come and voice their opinion to the Senators and Representatives about a casino for Fort Wayne.Legislators will also be hearing about a referendum for a Fort Wayne casino. One of the problems with a referendum involves the opportunity for the supporters of a casino to spend thousands and thousands of dollars in a media campaign in support of a casino for Fort Wayne.

Indiana Doesn’t Need More Gambling!
The key to helping Indiana economically now and in the future is to create an atmosphere where good paying jobs are created and retained. More gambling is not the answer!
2 Things You Can Do Now
To Stop A Casino In Fort Wayne

Step #1 – Come to the hearing at the State House on Monday, October 19th at 10:00 am in Room 431 and ask the legislators to oppose a casino or referendum for Fort Wayne.
