Shortly after the President’s announcement we received phone calls from 3 Indianapolis television stations asking for our response. We were able to schedule all 3 interviews.

Next Step In Indiana To Protect Marriage!

Advance America will continue to help lead the effort to pass a Constitutional Amendment to protect marriage between one man and one woman in Indiana. In order for the citizens of Indiana to be able to vote on the Constitutional Amendment in 2014, the Indiana General Assembly must pass the amendment in 2013 or 2014.

Eric Miller Working to Bring Social and Fiscal Conservatives Together!

August 23rd, 2010

For almost 30 years Eric Miller and Advance America have led the effort in Indiana in support of traditional values.

For over 10 years Eric has been a leader at the State House in support of smaller more efficient government and in controlling government spending and opposing tax increases.

Eric’s efforts to bring together social and fiscal conservatives was highlighted in a column by Russ Pulliam in the Indianapolis Star on Friday, August 20.

Tea partiers welcome

Indianapolis Star

Conservative political activist Eric Miller
sees common ground between the tea
party movement and his 30-year
advocacy of traditional family values.

The founder of Advance America thinks
the tea party will be a significant help in
November to candidates who favor
smaller government.

Miller is planning Take Back America
rallies this fall in Indianapolis and other
Indiana cities (www.advanceamerica.
com), along with voter guides, to
encourage limited government voters to
see clear differences among candidates.

Advance America has argued for
traditional pro-life, pro-family values
but also appeals for smaller government a
nd lower taxes. Miller ran for governor
in 2004, drawing more than 144,000 votes
in the Republican primary. Mitch Daniels
carried the race with 284,000 votes.

This year the tea party movement has
stirred up sentiment for a libertarian-
type emphasis on lower taxes and less
government.

“The typical tea party person I meet has
not been involved in politics before,”
Miller said. “There’s a whole segment who
may not go to every tea party rally. They
feel cut off from their government. They
are in their 40s and 50s and 60s and 70s.
They will be OK financially.

They’ve worked, raised their kids, paid for their
homes. But they are concerned for their
children and grandchildren.”

Although most tea party sympathizers
are economic conservatives, some aren’t
convinced about Advance America’s
emphasis on morality. Miller, however,
argues that many tea party enthusiasts
have an instinctive sympathy for his
family values thrust. “They know that
America has drifted morally,” he said.
“They hold to traditional values of hard
work, individual responsibility, of a
moral ethic that certain things are right
and certain things are wrong.”

Still, it’s unclear whether Advance
America’s conservative social values will
appeal to tea party members. Republican
leaders such as Ronald Reagan and, more
recently, U.S. Rep. Mike Pence have found
success by building a coalition of social
conservatives and small government
libertarians. Quite often neither wing of
the party can win an election without the
other.

Effort To Repeal Property Tax is Not Over!

February 17th, 2008

The effort to repeal property taxes with a Constitutional Amendment is not over at the State House!  For the past 18 months I have traveled the state of Indiana talking about the need for Hoosiers to be able to own their own home, farm and business.  I have had the opportunity to talk to tens of thousands of Hoosiers and host 14 Property Tax Repeal Rallies around the state.  Repealing property taxes is the only way:

1. To let someone finally own their own home, farm or business;
2. To let Hoosiers vote to repeal property taxes;
3. To stop future property tax increases;
4. To save over $100 million in administrative expenses;
5. To stop incorrect assessments; and
6. To not repeat history by raising existing taxes or creating new taxes in exchange for temporarily lowering property taxes.

The property tax crisis is real.  Solving the property tax crisis permanently is important to every family, farmer and business.  For this reason, the leadership of the House and the Senate should permit a fair, full and open debate on the floor by all 100 Representatives and all 50 Senators.  Governor Daniels should support this as well.

Unfortunately, the Republican leadership of the Senate, the Democrat leadership of the House and Governor Daniels have all refused to support the Repeal of Property Taxes this year in the General Assembly.  None of them support a debate and vote on the floor of the House and Senate this year on the Repeal of Property Taxes even though this is the only way to let people stop renting their property from the government.

There is still time to help Hoosiers by repealing property taxes.  Advance America will continue to work with Republicans and Democrats, Senators and Representatives in order to amend the Repeal of Property Taxes into another Constitutional Amendment.

More information is available on our website, www.AdvanceAmerica.com, including a study by Dr. Craig Johnson of Indiana University showing that property taxes can be repealed and replaced by controlling state and local government spending, by increasing the sales tax 2% and the income tax 1% only after the voters vote to repeal property taxes, by saving over $100 million in administrative expenses, and by adding in business replacement revenue.  Critics of repealing property taxes who quote higher sales and income taxes in order to repeal property taxes are not looking at our plan and are merely using scare tactics.

Governor Daniels’ proposal will not stop property taxes from increasing. It will not repeal property taxes.  It will not let someone finally own their own home, farm or business.   It will lead to local option income taxes in many counties.  It will raise the sales tax permanently. Repealing property taxes is the only permanent solution for Hoosiers.  Advance America will continue to lead the effort at the State House in 2008 and in future years.  Working together we can Repeal Property Taxes.  The time to start is now!
